DJ Angie Vu Ha Exclusive Interview for EDMDroid Asia

1. Please tell us and our readers more about the nightlife in France right now in times of Covid.

Clubs, bars… were only allowed to open since July 10 after almost 16 months, since the French government announced the closure of nightclubs, bars and restaurants on March 14, 2020. So nightlife is happening, but the sector still faces restrictions. Indoor venues are only allowed to open at 75% of their normal capacity and can only accept people with a valid “health passport” – a QR code or certificate proving that the holder has either recently recovered from Covid-19, is fully vaccinated or has had a negative Covid-19 test in the last 48 hours.

So even it’s chaotic to going out, a lot of people are very excited to be able to party again, clubs are crowded and fun as usual. There are long lines outside whichever clubs that open, and everyone is happy to have a social nightlife again.

2. How long have you been DJing & Producing and what can we expect next from Angie Vu Ha?

I started out as a DJ in Singapore in 2011, so it’s been 10 years. I moved to New York City in 2013 to learn producing, mixing and mastering. As an artist, you always have to evolve, changing and being creative to be able to grow and keep on delivering your best products to dazzle your fans.

I’ve had a few top Beatport charted songs in the last couple of years, one song ‘Addiction’ was released under Spinnin’ Records which is a huge step for me. I’m aslo very happy that my music video “Let you go” just reached 9 million views on Youtube. So next would be more producing, performing and creating amazing music videos. I’m actually working on my new music video “Pose for the Camera”, I just filmed it in Ibiza. It’s such an exciting project. I will release it under my own label Icon Global Records very very soon. We are also in postproduction stage for two other songs that I will release next year.

I also want to reveal a secret: I started singing, working on my first song now as a singer. Stay tuned!!!

3. What has been your best and your worst gig experience so far. Be honest please, don't hold back.

Every gig is the best gig. I just love the life of a DJ. I love being a performer; I love the nervousness before getting on the stage, the excitement to see the crowd go wild when you start to play the music, then after the gig is done is the feeling of happiness that I could connect with everyone through my music. It’s magical.

No worst gig, some sabotage here and there but it’s part of the business like any other business. You just have to fight by working harder to prove yourself and to find your place in a very competitive industry.

4. If you had to choose, which profession would you be going with? DJ or something else?

I’m an artist at heart, showbiz is my calling. I started out as an actress, then become a model then a DJ, producer. Now I started to sing so hopefully adding singer to the list. This is exactly everything I’ve ever wanted to do so I wouldn’t choose another path.

5. Top 3 tracks at the moment?

1, ADDICTION (FEAT. IIVES) [EXTENDED MIX] - Futuristic Polar Bears, Angie Vu Ha, Cuebrick, IIVES

2, DIAMONDS (EXTENDED MIX) ARTISTS Tinie Tempah, Martin Garrix, Julian Jordan

3, JIGGLE IT (ORIGINAL MIX) ARTISTS Marshmello, TroyBoi

6. With which intl. act would you love to collaborate and why?

I’ve collaborated with Futuristic Polar Bears and Cuebrick on two tracks and the results turned out to be amazing. “Obliviate” got #5 and “Addiction” got to #7 on top Beatport chart. I would love to do more tracks with them. Dream collaboration would be with Skrillex, DJ Snake and DJ Carnage, I just love the trap and dubstep sounds.

7. Are you keen on cooking up an exclusive mix for us and our readers ? (60min)

8. What are your work-related plans for 2021/2022, your career and beyond?

I plan to release my song “Pose for the Camera”, a collaboration with amazing New York producer Alvin Althony this Christmas holiday. It’s a house song that is upbeat and fun. The video is a flirty, sexy and big and bootyful video. It’s kind of Asian “Anaconda” video. You will love dancing to it. I’ve worked really hard on both producing the music and producing the music video, I can’t wait for you all to see it.

2022, I will release two more songs and its music videos: “You’ve got that love” by Valentine’s Day and “Take me back” on May before the summer comes.

I’m extremely excited about my first project as a singer. “French Kiss” will be releasing along with its music video sometimes in the summer 2022. I hope everyone will support me in this new role.

9. Congratulations for making it into several Top 100 lists and rankings for female DJs in recent years, including numerous times our World's & Asia's sexiest. Please tell us how you feel about it and what the reactions were from peers and fans?

Thank you. It means a lot to me. I’ve got the tittle “Asia’s Sexiest DJ” since day 1 when I started DJing. Then I won Playboy Miss Social and was invited to Playboy Headquarter and Playboy Mansion for photo shoots. My management was wondering if it would be good for me to pose for Playboy or not, because you want people to take you seriously as a DJ, musician and the sexy image would get in the way. But I decided to go ahead with Playboy; that decision helped me to gain exposure to US fans, my Facebook page was from 300,000 followers blew up to 2,5 millions followers. I got more recognition and more bookings for my DJ gigs. Then came along more sexy DJ tittles in different lists and ranks. My fans loved it and always supported whatever I do. The peers were quite judgmental and still do but I’m proud of my achievements as a model and a DJ. At the end of the day, people are going to judge anyway whatever you do. You just have to charge ahead and do whatever that makes you happy.

10. You were born in Vietnam, then spent much time living in Singapore and across Asia, same as the US. Are you considering returning to Vietnam or what has been the reason behind spending your life now in the West?

Vietnam will always be home, be my root. My family is still there so I come whenever I can to visit. I guess I’m a cosmopolitan; I’ve lived in Singapore, New York and now Paris and have traveled all over the world in between. For me the world is small, one day I’m in America, next day I’m in Europe or Asia, it’s just a few hours of flight. So Vietnam is not so far from my reach and my heart. My children are French so it’s France for now. I also see myself returning to the US in the very near future.
