The Music Room at Potato Head

A unique listening space hidden away inside the Potato Head restaurant, The Music Room is an intimate lounge for those who value quality sound. This suave little gem is perfect for music aficionados who want to sit down and enjoy some custom-made cocktails while the DJ serves up groovy tunes that set the mood just right. The room itself is fitted with a vintage high-fidelity sound system into its walls, which are sound-insulated, so when that door opens, you’re in for a pleasant surprise!

Mihn 宀

One of the city’s most intriguing music venues, 宀 focuses on building a community of audiophiles with carefully-selected acts from Europe, USA, and all pockets of Asia, including Hong Kong’s most loved DJs. With a strict “no photos, no dress code, feel free to feel free” mantra, this 100-capacity venue has disrupted the city’s music scene with a passion for bringing various breeds of electronic music to the Hong Kong crowd. Unlike most clubs, you will find the co-owners on the floor, behind the decks, and at the door, personally curating the space for you to boogey to some banging tunes. Oh, and did we mention their drinks come out of a vending machine?

Terrible Baby

Anything but terrible, the Eaton Hotel’s new bar-cum-music room is quickly becoming people’s new go-to spot for music of all genres—house, funk, hip-hop, rock, and more. Beyond their trendy acts and cleverly-themed cocktail menu (that uses sustainably-sourced drinks!), Terrible Baby’s mission is to strengthen the music scene in Kowloon, giving you a much-needed break from the streets of Soho. As if it could get any better, the bar pours over into a spacious garden-like patio with colourful views of the ‘Dark Side’, which will give you a whole new perspective of the emerging, gritty, and authentic Kowloon neighbourhood.

Designed to create vivid memories of live music and smoky libations, Mudita is a den where you can revel in the sweet pleasures of contemporary jazz, funk, and deep house. With mixologists stationed in the centre of this dark parlour to make the bar accessible from all sides of the retrofitted space, there is plenty of room to wiggle on the dance floor. You can catch the live band perform soulful renditions of hits on Fridays between 10pm–12am and on Saturdays, bend your knees to the beats belted out by Double Malt Records as they take over the club. In a covert nook of Soho, through a small door in the wall of a dark alley, is Hong Kong’s original house and techno venue. Oma is a key player in the city’s underground electronic music scene, with local legends playing there on the regular and new talent stirring up a whirlwind every week. Don’t let its small size fool you; the nights are big, the energy is high, and you will be surrounded by a mix of locals and travellers. A hive for people looking for quality music in a traditional club setting, Volar is in the basement of a building in Hong Kong’s infamous streets of Lan Kwai Fong. Away from people pouring into the streets, through an underground maze, their Nest Room is the spot to be for some late-night house music. The club’s mirrored walls and blacked out hallways add to you getting lost in the music, so be sure to find and check out their iconic photobooth while you’re there for some snaps you can laugh at in the morning!
