Joseph Capriati hospitalised after being stabbed by his father

Joseph Capriati has been hospitalised after being stabbed by his father.

The two allegedly got into a fight, during which Capriati’s father, 61, stabbed his son in the chest with a kitchen knife. The weapon has been recovered by police officers.

Capriati has been taken to hospital in Caserta, Italy and his father has been arrested for attempted murder.

Alberto D’Agostino, director of the Major Trauma Surgery Department of the Sant’Anna and San Sebastiano hospital in Caserta, has said that Capriati’s stab wound affected his lungs. He was given a transfusion and is currently stable, but doctors are holding off on giving a definitive prognosis until his condition has improved.

Capriati usually resides in Spain, but since the Coronavirus pandemic has returned to live with his family in Caserta.

Update on Sunday January 10: La Republica reports that Joseph Capriati is “slowly improving”, with more information set to be released tomorrow by the surgery department of Caserta hospital.

Capriati’s father is being held at the military prison Santa Maria Capua Vetere and a judge will soon decide on whether to keep him in jail or place him under house arrest. He is said to be “devastated”.

More details of the argument between Capriati and his father are also being reported: it’s alleged that an argument broke out between Capriati and his mother before his father intervened. It’s reported that Capriati punched his father before his father retaliated by stabbing him in the chest with a kitchen knife. Capriati’s brother was also present at the incident, which happened at the family’s home in Caserta
